18th century pub reopens following major refurbishment

The Castle Pub

The Castle Pub in Nottingham has reopened following a £100,000 refurbishment.

The popular venue at 1 Castle Road is part of the Ever So Sensible Group, which also runs nearby Fothergills and Le Mistral. It closed its doors in February while the first phase of its extensive interior refresh took place, but has now reopened with a fresh new look and a new menu.

The eighteenth century listed building now boasts new paintwork and art deco light pendants. Dark polished wood and decorative paned windows have also been installed in homage to architect Watson Fothergill’s vernacular style.

The pub has also revealed plans to revamp its upstairs function room in the next few months.

General manager Jasmine Groves said: “As a city centre pub in a popular location, our clientele is a mixture of locals looking for something authentic, as well as visitors to the city. As a result, we wanted to create a space that customers old and new could feel at home.

“Our new look is bright, airy and inviting but doesn’t stray too far from traditional styles, with lots of dark wood, rich colour tones, stained glass windows and eye-catching decorations. We’ve put a lot of effort into adding unexpected interior touches, including upcycling some of the wooden packaging used in our refurb to create an eye-catching industrial feature wall.

“Our new menu features some classic pub favourites with a plant-based twist, and the option to add meat should our diners wish, means there is something for everyone.

“We’re really excited for this new chapter of The Castle Pub and we’re looking forward to showing off the new space over the coming months.”
