Anchor tenant for new business park revealed

The anchor tenant for a brand new building on the new Stallingborough business park in North-East Lincolnshire has been revealed.

myenergi, which promotes green energy within the home and the electrification of transport, was founded in 2016 and has outgrown its current manufacturing premises in Binbrook. The company has already submitted a temporary change of use planning application to use the former Wickes building in the centre of Grimsby while its new building is under construction.

The new 15,500 sq ft unit is planned to be myenergi’s HQ. An option to construct a large warehouse on the adjoining site is part of their phase 2 development plans.

The unit, the first to be developed on the Stallingborough business park, received planning permission last December as a speculative build.

Geo Houlton, a Hull based company, won the competitive tender to build the unit for North East Lincolnshire Council.

Andrew Kingston, managing director of Geo Houlton, said: “We are delighted to be working with North East Lincolnshire Council to deliver this project. The project is part of a wider scheme to regenerate Stallingborough Interchange, creating around 3,000 jobs so we are extremely proud to have been selected by the authority to play a part in delivering their long term objective.”

The first building is being constructed with the aid of a £950,000 grant through the Local Growth Fund, Humber Growth Deal grant programme, secured by the Humber Local Enterprise Partnership as part of the Government’s commitment to the Northern Powerhouse, to build a flagship building on the site. This will create over 80 jobs.

Cllr John Fenty, Cabinet member at North East Lincolnshire Council for regeneration and skills, said: “I’m delighted to have myenergi sign as the anchor tenants on the new site, further cementing our credentials as a key part of the Energy Estuary. Additionally, the South Humber programme is incredibly important in terms of bringing local jobs to local people and this will provide the first tangible results.

“We’ve a long way to go to make sure that the business park fulfils its potential, but with myenergi having the confidence to choose our area, others will follow.”

Dr Chris Horne, myenergi commercial director, said: “This is an exciting development for myenergi as we continue to grow by investing in UK manufacturing and committing to local employment.

“It’s been great working with NELC to develop the detailed plans for our new headquarters. Their team has taken the time to really understand our business and then deliver a building that meets all our requirements. We can’t wait to move in!”
