A1 closed southbound after ‘serious incident’

The A1 in Lincolnshire is closed southbound between the A607 Harlaxton junction (Grantham) and the B1174 (Little Ponton).

This is due to a serious incident being managed by Lincolnshire Police. The road is expected to remain closed for “an extended period of time” according to Highways England.

A diversion is available around the closure:

Exit at the Harlaxton junction on to the A607 and follow the route marked with a hollow diamond symbol on local road signs. This will route traffic via the A607 southbound to Melton Mowbray. In Melton Mowbray at the junction by the hospital continue straight on to join the A606. Remain on the A606 through Melton Mowbray town centre. Bear left to remain on the A606 and continue eastbound Oakham. Remain on the A606 around Oakham (Burley Park Way) and at the Stamford Road roundabout take the first exit to remain on the A606. Head east on the A606 on to Stamford to re-join the A1.

A statement from Highways England said: “Please be aware that the above diversion route adds a considerable additional mileage to your journey and therefore you should allow additional time for your journey if you’re intending to use the section of the A1 that is closed.”
