Double collision on M1 causing long delays

Motorists travelling northbound on the M1 through the East Midlands this afternoon are set for long delays after a double collision closed the carriageway in two different places.

There are long delays on the M1 in Leicestershire northbound between Junction 20 and Junction 21 near Lutterworth due to a collision that has closed two lanes.

Crews are working at scene to clear however there are long delays approaching the incident, approximately 60 minutes above normal travel time.

Meanwhile, the M1 in Derbyshire is closed northbound between J29 (Chesterfield / Mansfield) and J30 (Sheffield) due to a collision.

Emergency services are at scene including air ambulance.

Highways England says that road users travelling northbound should exit the M1 at J29 and join the A617. Continue along the A617 until the roundabout with the A61, exit the roundabout onto the A61. At the next roundabout take the A619 and then the A616 to re-join the M1 at J30.
