Pizza Express has announced it is set to close 73 branches and cut 1,100 jobs as part of a cost-cutting exercise due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The East Midlands will see only three restaurants close, in Grantham, Melton Mowbray and Nottingham Goosegate.

Pizza Express said that approval of a planned company voluntary arrangement (CVA) will pave the way for 9,000 jobs being saved.

The firm’s Chinese owners Hony Capital says it will look to redeploy staff affected by the closures.
