Work starts on Northampton housing scheme

Work has started on the construction of 73 affordable houses in Northampton.

Countryside has started construction on behalf of Nottingham Community Housing Association.

The development on Dayrell Road, just north of West Hunsbury, is the first collaboration between Countryside’s South Midlands division and NCHA, a partnership which seeks to introduce more affordable housing for residents across the Midlands.

The project follows Countryside’s recent expansion into the Midlands region, with the opening of its Wolverhampton office in 2016 and subsequent offices in Solihull and Leicester in 2019.

Work on site will see the creation of a new community of modern homes ready for occupation in September 2021.

Gary Belcher, managing director, partnerships South Midlands, Countryside, said: “Commencing construction on Dayrell Road in partnership with NCHA signals the creation of much-needed affordable homes for local people in Northampton. It is thanks in large part to the commitment and hard work of our site team who have gone to great lengths to work both safely and efficiently during this period of social distancing. We look forward to working with NCHA for the duration of this project and beyond and welcoming their residents into brand new homes next autumn.”

Allan Fisher, director of development and assets at NCHA, said: “It’s great that work is now able to commence at this scheme in Northampton. The development, providing 73 new affordable homes, will make such a difference to the local community; rented homes at affordable levels for families priced out of the rental market, and shared ownership homes to help people get on the property ladder. Thank you to our partners Countryside for their continued efforts to ensure the viability of the project during these recent months.”
