Housebuilder plans 166 homes in Leicestershire town

Bellway’s Wingerworth site

Housebuilder Bellway has bought 12.5 acres of land in Coalville and wants to build 166 new homes, subject to full planning permission.

The parcel of land sits within a larger 250-acre site, where outline plans for 2,016 new homes alongside a primary school and a local community centre have been approved.

Bellway is now preparing to submit its detailed plans to the local authority, with the hope that planning permission will be granted by the summer.

Bellway’s proposed development includes a mix of two-, three- and four-bedroom properties, along with 13 affordable homes.

Simon Maddison, head of land for Bellway East Midlands, said: “If our plans for this site in South East Coalville are approved, it will enable us to move forward with work to provide much-needed new homes for this part of Leicestershire.

“This proposed development will be hugely beneficial for Coalville and our proposals include affordable housing to ensure there is an opportunity for everyone to live in the area. It will also be part of a wider new neighbourhood which is delivering a multitude of new facilities and building a new community for local people to enjoy.

“We are looking forward to working with the local authority in finalising our detailed plans for the site and delivering these new homes.”

If the detailed planning application is approved by North West Leicestershire District Council, Bellway intends to start construction work at the site in autumn 2021.
