Plans revealed for 210 more homes in former mining town

How the new homes would be laid out

David Wilson Homes has lodged plans to build up to 210 homes on land next to a Nottinghamshire country park.

The housebuilder wants to develop the greenbelt land in the former mining town of Cotgrave, on land north of Hollygate Lane next to the site of the former colliery, which is now a much-visited country park.

Of the 210 homes, 21 would be classed as affordable.

At present, the planning proposal is to “reconfirm the principle” of residential development is approval for access only, which will be via a four-armed roundabout which also indicates a further phase of development on land to the south of Hollygate Lane, to be built by Taylor Wimpey.

The plans for the site include houses of two- to five-bedroom in size.

There has been concern in Cotgrave that more houses in the town could overwhelm the Candleby Lane Primary Schoool, which is already well-subscribed. However, the planning statement confirms that “any neccessary” contributions towards primary education facilities will be made.

The statement adds: “The application seeks to deliver a development, which will help meet the housing needs of the area, in a sustainable location that is well connected to the existing settlement and its amenities.”
