New fire station gets green light
Bassetlaw District Council has granted planning permission for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service’s new fire station on a 0.8 acre site at the Vesuvius development site, off Sandy Lane in Worksop.
The facility will replace the existing Worksop Fire Station on Eastgate, Worksop, which was built in 1963.
The Fire Service acquired the site from CEG, the company which is currently redeveloping this brownfield site.
Antonia Martin Wright, head of investment at CEG, said: “The decision is great news for the Vesuvius site. We have been working hard to regenerate and bring the Vesuvius site back to life. The permission adds to the momentum of the site, previous infrastructure works and access paved the way for the recently opened Asda superstore and we are on site delivering 46,000 sq ft of industrial and business space.
“There is a great deal of interest in the space as it provides high quality and flexible accommodation for a wide range of businesses and we are also seeing demand for the larger design and build sites. The Fire Station being constructed here will further boost the job creation and economic benefits the Vesuivus development will deliver for Worksop.”
Chief fire officer John Buckley said: “I’m very pleased that the planning application has been approved. The new station will be built to the same high, energy-efficient standard as the other stations we have built in recent years, making it easier and cheaper to run. We look forward to being able to appoint a contractor and, eventually, to the firefighters moving in.”
