Shoe Zone looks forward to life without lockdowns at sales plummet

Revenue slumped by over a third during the six months to April 3 at Leicester-based retailer Shoe Zone as the company continued to struggle with the effects of the pandemic.

Turnover came in at £40.4m over the period, down from £68.9m last year. Losses were flat at £2.6m, compared to £2.5m last year.

Shoe Zone revealed this morning (May 18) that it closed 38 stores during the period and that the majority of its staff remained furloughed.

A statement from the company said: “We have had to adapt and reshape our business to react to extremely difficult trading conditions. We enter the second half of the financial year with the hope that we have seen the worst of the COVID-19 impact and look forward to the stores getting back to what we would call ‘normal’ trading conditions, with no further lockdowns.”
