Notts club makes final four in ‘golfing Oscars’

The Nottinghamshire Golf & Country Club has been shortlisted as one of only four finalists for the Club of the Year in England Golf’s annual awards.

The awards are widely recognised as the ‘Oscars of the industry’, according to managing director Amanda Fletcher and club owner Alan Hardy.

Hardy took the decision to “double down” on investment in the club during the pandemic, keeping his entire green team on and creating new course features to, in his words, “ensure that members would return to a Club that was more fun to play than the one they left”. Inside the clubhouse, a full refit was undertaken, remodelling the restaurant and bar areas, and changing the Pro Shop to include a new virtual fairway for trying out new clubs and equipment.

The Club gave exclusive use of its boutique hotel for NHS and Keyworkers during the first lockdown to ensure that they were able to keep their families safe, and have somewhere to isolate between shifts.

The Club says membership has grown during the lockdown period, to the point where it’s almost at capacity.

Hardy said: “It’s a wonderful feeling to have been nominated and shortlisted for the most prestigious award in golf.”

Fletcher added: “The entire team has worked tirelessly during the last year and the club has never looked better or played better. We’re so grateful for the way that our wonderful members have supported us, and to all of us, the best way we could find to repay them was to give them a fantastic environment to return to”

The winner for Best Club will be announced on Thursday 3 June from 6.30pm. The virtual ceremony will be broadcast live on England Golf’s YouTube channel and will be hosted by broadcaster, journalist and avid golfer Naga Munchetty.
