Verge fire closes M1 in Leicestershire

The M1 in Leicestershire is closed southbound between J22 Markfield Interchange (Leicester A50, Coalville A511) and J21a Kirby Muxloe Interchange (Leicester, Newark A46) due to a verge fire.

Leicestershire Fire & Rescue are on scene along with Leicestershire Police and Highways England Traffic Officer units.

A diversion is available, says Highways England.

– Exit at J22 and follow the route marked with a solid black circle symbol on road signs.

– At the end of the J22 southbound exit slip road take the first exit from the roundabout on to the A50 eastbound towards Leicester

– Remain on the A50 to the Groby Interchange with the A46

– At the Groby Interchange roundabout take the fourth exit on to the A46 Leicester Western Bypass westbound

– Remain on the A46 westbound and merge on to the M1 southbound at J21a

Road users are advised to expect delays on the approach to the closure and allow extra time for their journeys.
