Work starts on £20m Leicester waterside scheme

How the new houses will look

Leicester city centre will soon have its very first family houses available through a £20m Private Rental Sector (PRS) Build to Rent (BTR) scheme, thanks to a new development from Newtown Living.

Some 51 new houses and 25 apartments will be available to rent at the waterside development on Abbey Meadows, Wolsey Island which has been named Lock 44, after the adjacent lock on the Grand Union Canal that is one of two waterways that flow past the site.

The project will see the final parcel of disused land at Abbey Meadows close to the city’s science and technology hub, Space Park, and nestled between the canal and the River Soar.

Robert Orr, marketing manager for Newtown Living said: “Cleary the concept of renting is nothing new, but what makes Newtown Living different is the focus on service and on-site management.

“The PRS model give tenants a brand new, professionally managed property, long term stability and better all-round quality.

“We are thrilled to be able to bring this premium development with its unique waterside setting to the market, especially the family houses, which will be a first for the city and we expect will be in high demand.”

Properties will be ready to move into in the autumn

Newtown Living plans to bring forward further Built to Rent family housing schemes in Mountsorrel and Melton Mowbray soon.
