Newark MP sacked in Cabinet reshuffle

Robert Jenrick MP

Newark MP Robert Jenrick has been sacked as Housing Secretary in a wide-ranging reshuffle by Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Jenrick served for two years in the post and was, at times, caught up in controversial moments, such as when he intervened in a planning decision to help billionaire Tory donor Richard Desmond.

Jenrick issued a statement after his sacking, which read: “It’s been a huge privilege to serve as Secretary of State. Thank you to everyone at the department for their hard work , dedication and friendship. I’m deeply proud of all we achieved.

“I will continue to support the Prime Minister and the Government in every way I can.”

Jenrick has been MP for Newark since 2014.
