Nottingham civils firm lands place on £60m framework

Nottingham-baed civil and electrical engineering firm McCann has been named on National Highways’ Supplier Delivery Framework (SDF), securing works across two LOTs and six National Highways Asset Delivery Areas over a six year period.

National Highways, formerly known as Highways England, recently launched the SDF in order to continue with its delivery of the already established England-wide Asset Delivery Model. Asset Delivery sees the country split into distinct areas, with works awarded to specialist contractors. Projects are awarded in Lots, with contractors placed on different tiers within those Lots. Some 161 places were available across the SDF, which is divided into four bands covering a total of 16 Lots.

McCann has been named as a Tier 1 contractor for renewals across Lot 7 – Lighting – in Areas 10, 12, 7, 9 and 13, as well as Lot 9 – Technology – in Areas 10, 12, 9 and 3. The total value of the works across the six-year period for McCann is £59m.

As part of McCann’s strategic growth plan, which was set out at the start of 2021 targeting £60m – £150m growth by 2024, partnering directly with National Highways as a Tier 1 contractor and securing works across the SDF were seen as crucial to the company’s ambitions.

Maintaining and strengthening these relationships with National Highways and realising the strategy was the responsibility of McCann’s Strategic Highways Director, Clive Leadbetter – who joined the firm at the start of this year.

He said: “National Highways has always been a key client for McCann and our strategy for the short and long-term is very much focused around key clients,”

“We want to build deeper relationships and work more closely with these clients across not just lighting, but the full suite of civil, electrical and technological engineering services. We’re a complete service provider that promises a quality product, so by winning a broader range of projects, we can further prove our credentials and showcase the expertise that exists within our highly skilled, directly employed team,”

He continues: “SDF exists to provide economic prosperity, growth and opportunities for businesses and individuals across England, and we’re proud to be a part of the continued renewal works to ensure that we have a strategic road network which can continue to facilitate a thriving economy.”

Managing director John McCann said: “We’ve known for a long time that we are in a great position and that making this next big jump for the business is more than achievable,” says John.

“We employ in excess of 300 people across the UK – working across the full suite of infrastructure solutions including civil engineering, lighting, multi utilities and highways – and our commitment to quality, safety and on-time delivery is second to none,”

“The business has been delivering results for over 50 years, and we feel that now is the time to go to the next level. Securing high profile works such as those on the Scheme Delivery Framework will enable us to grow and realise our ambition of becoming the contractor of choice for key clients on a more regular basis.”
