Customer base of failed Leicestershire energy supplier sold to Octopus

The customer base of collapsed Leicestershire energy supplier Avro has been snapped up by Octopus Energy – in a move which will makek it one of the UK’s biggest players.

Octopus has taken on the 580,000-strong roster from Avro, which was based in Hinckley and last week ceased trading. The firm now has 3.1m customers – the fifth largest in the UK.

Industry regulator Ofgem made the decision to move the customers over to Octopus. Neil Lawrence, Ofgem’s director of retail, said: “We understand that this news may be unsettling for customers, however they do not need to worry. Their energy supply will continue as normal, and customer credit balances will be honoured.

“Your energy supply will not be interrupted. Octopus Energy will be in contact with customers over the coming days with further information. Once the transfer has been completed, customers can shop around for a better deal if they wish to.”
