Plans revealed for huge Nottingham residential scheme

Plans for a huge mixed-use, residential-led scheme on the former Forest Mill on Alfreton Road in Nottingham have been revealed.

Olympian Homes wants to build a huge scheme that would house 790 students, 68 one- and two-bedroom apartments along with leisure and retail facilities on a brownfield site surrounded by Alfreton Road, Highhurst Street, Denman Street East and Boden Street – just outside Nottingham city centre.

Olympian Homes bought the land last year after plans for a similar student accommodation scheme were granted planning permission.

The new scheme would be eight storeys high at its tallest, coming down to six, five and four storeys towards Boden Street. It is being designed by Hodder + Partners.

The plans for the development outline very different buildings; the Alfreton, Highhurst and Spine buildings form the student campus, while the Corner Building will operate separately from the other three as a residential building.

A retail unit will be incorporated at the corner of Alfreton Road and Highurst Street. A gym will also be included, but conceptually and architecturally Olympian’s proposals follow the principles set by the already consented scheme from 2018.

Nottingham City Council planning bosses will assess the plans over coming weeks.
