Cash running low at Derby County as administrators face calls to make ‘urgent’ statement

The administrators of Derby County, Quatuma, have been urged to make a public statement on the future of the club “as a matter of urgency” by a group of business and city leaders.

“Team Derby”, a pressure group made up of business, political and civic leaders from the city, says it met with Quantuma yesterday (March 1) after an extended deadline from the EFL to prove that the Rams had enough money to finish the season slipped by.

The meeting, said Team Derby was to “seek clarification on progress to identify a preferred bidder and ensure the future of Derby County in seeking to exit administration”.

During the meeting, Quantuma confirmed to Team Derby representatives that bids to buy the club have been received and they were “urgently clarifying details” before announcing the preferred bidder.

The move follows a statement from the EFL on Monday, which said it also wanted an “urgent” update from Quantuma.

A statement from Team Derby said: “Team Derby remain frustrated and concerned, especially following a statement by the EFL which has shaken confidence in the process and so, we are urging Quantuma to make a public statement on the current situation as a matter of urgency.

“Our primary concern remains, not only the survival of Derby County, but the impact of this continuing uncertainty on the wider community of Derby and surrounding areas – the fans, communities and businesses – whose passion continues to bring an incredible energy and profile to attempts to save the club.”

In a separate development, Rob Dorsett of Sky Sports, has said that while the EFL remains patient with the Rams’ administrators, he has been told that cash is running out quickly at the Championship club. He tweeted: “EFL has no plans to expel #dcfc from League despite administrators missing yesterday’s deadline to prove funding.

“Admins are still assessing bids, not said anything for 10 days.

“I’ve been told Derby have cash for player wages and club expenses for a few weeks, but not beyond that.”

Derby County lost 1-0 away to Cardiff on Tuesday evening, leaving the club 23rd in the Championship table, eight points from safety and having played at least one more game than their relegation rivals.
