Drivers urged to find alternative routes as major fire breaks out

The derelict warehouse remains ablaze

Police are asking people to avoid an area of Mansfield after a major fire broke out at around 3am on Monday morning (March 28).

Emergency services were called to reports of a fire in Hermitage Lane. A derelict building is ablaze and motorists are being asked to plan alterate routes as Hermitage Lane, Sutton Road End and Hamilton Way are all closed.

Police remain at the scene working with colleagues from Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service and East Midlands Ambulance Service. Some 20 fire engines are in attendance

Chief Inspector Paul Hennessy, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “We would please ask drivers and the public to stay away from the area while emergency services deal with this large-scale incident and to plan alternate routes while we have roads closed in the surrounding areas.

“Residents are advised to keep all doors and windows shut in the area, at this time there are no plans to evacuate any local residents.”
