Plans in to turn ‘concrete bunker’ into mixed-use scheme

How the scheme would look

Plans to turn a building dubbed a “concrete bunker” into a student accommodation scheme have bene submitted to Nottingham City Council.

Maven Property (Nottingham) has formally submitted its vision for the site after holding a public consultation on land facing onto Lower Parliament Street and is also bounded by Clinton Street East, Clinton Street West and the junction of Lincoln and Thurland streets.

The plans outline a scheme that would rise to five storeys at its highest point and include 104 student bedspaces in a mixture of cluster and studio flats. Communal lounges, a gym, laundry and cycle store would also be included. The retail units on the ground floor would be retained and there would be space for market traders long Clinton Street East and Clinton Street.

The primary student entry point will front onto Lincoln Street. The retail provision on ground floor will be retained and an additional pedestrian entrance will be created.

In March, Carolyn McEwan of Maven Capital Partners told TheBusinessDesk.com: “This scheme will see the complete transformation of a building that is one of the less attractive in Nottingham city centre. Our proposals would see an attractive development brought forward to serve Nottingham’s growing student population and to improve the look and feel of the local area. In addition, by incorporating yet improving the existing structure into our development we can reduce the environmental impact of construction to create a more sustainable development.”
