Green light for student scheme on Domestic & General office site

How the scheme would look

Plans to demolish the Domestic & General (D&G) offices on Talbot Street in Nottingham and build a 318-bed student accommodation scheme on the site have been given the green light by Nottingham City Council.

McLaren Property (Nottingham) has got the go-ahead for the development which will be between 7 and 8 storeys on its Talbot Street elevation, and between 7 and 9 storeys facing out onto Wollaton Street.

The scheme has been amended down from 10-storeys and is being designed by Leonard Design Architects.

A statement from D&G said: “The implementation of this scheme will help to facilitate our investment in taking new premises at Station Street and plans to expand our workforce. This will ensure that we can remain located in Nottingham, promoting many economic benefits, as well as allowing for the retention of our current employees.

“It is important that the site at Talbot Street is re-purposed to a scheme which is better suited to its location. As such, we support McLaren Property in their proposals to redevelop into carefully managed student accommodation bedrooms.”

D&G will move out of the offices in later this year into new premises on Station Street.
