Lady Bay Bridge expected to be closed on Tuesday after serious incident

A major Nottingham bridge over the River Trent looks set to be closed today (July 5) after as lorry crashed over its side yesterday morning.

A joint statement from Nottinghamshire County Council and Nottingham City Council said: “Lady Bay Bridge is also expected to remain closed tomorrow and so we are advising motorists to plan alternative routes using Trent Bridge, Clifton Bridge or Gunthorpe Bridge. Please keep in mind that these routes are likely to be busier due to the disruption on Lady Bay Bridge.”

The incident happened on Monday morning at rush hour. A Nottinghamshire Police spokesman said: “We were called at 8.51am today to a report of a lorry leaving the carriageway at Lady Bay Bridge in West Bridgford and crashing down an embankment. The bridge is closed while emergency services deal with the incident. Motorists are asked to find an alternative route.”
