Civils firm secures major Derbyshire hospitals contract

A Nottinghamshire-based civil and electrical engineering firm is set to carry out multi-utilities works at the Royal Chesterfield Hospital and Kingsway Hospital, Derby – including the construction of a new mental health facility at the former.

McCann will work in partnership with Integrated Health Projects – a joint venture between Sir Robert McAlpine and Vinci Construction UK – to deliver the scheme.

A number of additional external stakeholders will support the delivery of the projects including RPH Surfacing, Vocon Traffic Management, Radius Sub Terra/SRS Gas and Water Utilities.

McCann has secured subcontract orders for both hospitals, which sit within the Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

Works at the Royal Chesterfield Hospital and Kingsway Hospital, which will cost a combined £380,000, are expected to begin in August 2022 with an anticipated completion date of early September 2022.

McCann’s managing director, John McCann, said: “I’m always delighted to hear about new contract wins for the business, but in this case that delight is much greater given the fact our services are required to support the development of critical infrastructure for a major local NHS Trust.

“We’ve established a great reputation for delivering quality infrastructure solutions for clients across the UK, so to be named as a partner with Sir Robert McAlpine and Vinci Construction UK is testament to our hard work.”

McCann added: “We’ve all witnessed just how vital the NHS is to our country and its communities in recent years – especially when it comes to mental health – so we’re proud to be supporting the development of critical NHS infrastructure that will make a significant difference to people’s lives right here in the East Midlands.”
