Derbion set for £2m food court refurb

Derbion, Derby’s flagship retail and leisure destination, has revealed £2m plans to refurbish its food court.

The investment will see seating capacity at the food court – which will be renamed the Food Terrace – increase from around 650 to 800.

New flooring, lighting, recycling stations and baby feeding facilities are already being installed, with the works expected to complete by Autumn this year.

Meanwhile, American fried chicken brand Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen is set to open at Derbion in September – its first foray into Derbyshire.

FHP Property Consultants sealed the deal to bring Popeyes, which has over 3,600 restaurants in the US, to the East Midlands.

Alan Pearson, a director at FHP, said: “I’m delighted to have secured the first Popeyes in Derbyshire at Derbion. They will be a great addition to the new Food Terrace and the continuing investment into the scheme by the owners.”

Adam Tamsett, centre director at Derbion, said: “Our food court has always been a hugely popular destination within the centre, and this demand has only increased over the past two years. Alongside our daytime visitors, the area remains a busy early evening destination, supporting the Showcase Cinema De Lux, Hollywood Bowl and Paradise Island Adventure Golf, as well as Derby Theatre.

“The refurbishment will enable us to extend our seating area to welcome even more visitors to our revamped Food Terrace to enjoy a breadth of choice in a contemporary, welcoming environment.

“We are committed to our continued investment in the centre to ensure that it meets the changing needs of our customers. The Food Terrace is the next step of that evolution, and we’re looking forward to getting started on this exciting phase of development at Derbion.”
