Weekender: Leicester BID unveils plans for Restaurant Week

Following a tough few years for hospitality businesses, Leicester foodies have been given something to celebrate after the city’s BID revealed plans to hold another Restaurant Week later this year.

The second Leicester Restaurant Week will take place between 17-23 October.

The gastronomic jamboree will shine a light on some of the city’s finest eateries, offering punters the chance to try something new or revisit favourite haunts.

A hugely popular concept in other cities such as Newcastle, London and York, Restaurant Week gives businesses the chance to showcase a specially selected menu or be creative and offer something new and exclusive to customers for the duration of the week.

This October, diners will once again have the chance to sample the city’s foodie scene as participating restaurants offer an exclusive deal, for one week only. Price points will be fixed at £5, £10, £15 and £20 with menus available across brunch, lunch and dinner, giving people the chance to try a variety of new venues and dishes without breaking the bank.

More than 2,600 vouchers were downloaded by hungry patrons during the inaugural Leicester Restaurant Week in 2021.

Restaurants already confirmed to return with deals this year include Sonrisa, Giggling Squid, Knight & Garter and The Rutland & Derby, with many more to be announced – including some new names making their first Leicester Restaurant Week appearance.

Leicester BID director Simon Jenner said: “We are delighted to be bringing Leicester Restaurant Week back for a second year. Last year’s event received great feedback from businesses and customers alike, showing a well-deserved boost in trade for our hospitality sector.

“There will be even more great restaurants taking part this year, including some of the exciting new openings since last year’s event. Leicester is lucky to have a vibrant and diverse dining scene – Restaurant Week is a celebration of all these businesses that draw people in and enhance their experience of the city. The mouth-watering range of offers will be the perfect excuse for residents, workers and visitors to dine out this October.”

Sam Hagger, founder of The Beautiful Pubs Collective, had two venues take part in last year’s Restaurant Week.

He said: “Our Restaurant Week menus at Knight & Garter and The Rutland & Derby were really popular last year. We saw a great uplift in trade throughout the week in both venues, with both existing and new guests keen to make the most of us offering something a little different that is not available at any other time of year.

“I’d recommend any business owner to get in touch with the BID and get involved this year. Restaurant Week is a chance to get creative and showcase the best of your venue, knowing that you have the support of a wider marketing campaign to help drive awareness. It’s a great way to attract new guests through your doors and show them what you have to offer whilst encouraging additional regulars to join you for an incremental visit!”
