World first as flexible power plant project kicks off in Nottinghamshire

Work has begun on a first-of-its-kind net zero flexible power generation project in Worksop.

VH Global Sustainable Energy Opportunities (GSEO) is funding the construction of two heat and power plants in the town which combine high-efficiency, gas-fired engine technology with a carbon capture and re-use system.

The two projects are being funded without public subsidy or government support and have a combined capacity of 45MW.

The first plant is expected to become operational in Q2 2023.

The project will benefit from the involvement and expertise of companies including Rolls-Royce, Climeon, Turboden and ASCO Carbon Dioxide.

Richard Lum, co-CIO at GSEO’s investment adviser Victory Hill Capital Advisors LLP, said: “Breaking ground on this exciting new project is a key milestone in the development of carbon capture and reuse projects in the UK. We’re delighted to combine two technologies that will provide an efficient, reliable and secure form of energy at net-zero.

“In addition to our longstanding commitment to the global energy transition, we’re pleased to be able to provide local jobs through implementing localised solutions. This project is a first-of-its-kind, and we look forward to further innovative projects which will drive our sustainability ambitions further.”
