Challenger bank bolsters real estate proposition

Vaughan Hobbs

Cambridge & Counties Bank has expanded its Midlands property team with a pair of senior hires after experiencing an uptick in demand for its real estate product suite.

Gary Shepherdson and Vaughan Hobbs bring more than 50 years of combined experience to the Leicester-based specialist lender.

The pair have joined the challenger bank as senior relationship managers and will report to regional director Jayne Follows.

Shepherdson joins Cambridge & Counties after spending nearly 10 years at Handelsbanken, where he held a variety of roles including corporate banking manager and credit analyst.

He will be based at the firm’s head office on New Walk.

Birmingham-based Hobbs has held a similarly diverse array of business development, portfolio management and restructuring roles with the likes of Lloyds, Santander and Nationwide.

Cambridge & Counties saw its total lending pass the £1bn mark this year.

Established in 2012, the bank employs more than 200 people across its offices in Leicester, Sheffield, Bristol, London and Glasgow.

Jayne Follows, regional director – Midlands & South at Cambridge & Counties, said: “We’re delighted to be adding Gary and Vaughan to our successful Midlands team. Both have extensive experience and a deep understanding of the needs of our clients and the brokers that support them. Midlands is a key growth market for the bank, and we will continue to invest in the local team.”
