Derbyshire showroom to close as furniture retailer ceases trading

Liquidators are set to be appointed

A furniture retailer with showrooms in Buxton, Derbyshire and Heywood and Bury in Greater Manchester has ceased trading.

Simpson Furniture was recruiting staff as recently as 9 October at its Buxton site, according to its Facebook page.

Now, however, asset advisory specialists at Walker Singleton have invited bids for the entire contents of the Derbyshire showroom “pending the appointment of liquidators.”

As we went to press it was unclear what caused the company to collapse.

More than 400 items of furniture from Simpson’s premises in The Springs Shopping Centre are currently up for sale online, with the auction closing at 10am on Thursday 8 December.

The showroom has only been open for business since April.

Dan Hey, asset advisory director at Walker Singleton, said: “The wide range of both living and bedroom furniture together with homeware and accessories will appeal to all and is just in time for Christmas.

“We would recommend anyone interested in taking part in the auction to come to the viewing day and see for themselves the breadth and standard of the furniture items available.”
