Derbyshire-based Acres Engineering has opened a new base in Malaga, Spain – marking the first time it has established a permanent presence outside the UK.

The family firm, which is headquartered at Castle Lane Industrial Estate in Melbourne, has appointed Alejandro De Castro to lead its new Spanish division, which will trade as Acres Engineering Europe S.L.

In four years with Acres, De Castro has been involved in the creation of more than 1,500 products and served as part of the company’s leadership team.

Acres’ managing director Luke Parker said: “This is such an exciting moment for all of us. Spain is a global leader in automotive components (one of our major markets) and is actively investing to increase and enhance the industrial sector.

“This is a positive statement of intent from us as a growing business and a move which will also give us crucial access to the European common market. I am delighted to be working with Alejandro on this new venture, he has incredible talent as a designer but also as a manager and leader.

“By continuing to work closely together we will bring our knowledge, experience and processes from the UK to the European market and naturally learn a great deal from how Spain has built its own reputation for manufacturing excellence. That can only be a good thing for our customers here in the UK and across the continent.”

De Castro added: “Our focus with this new adventure will be not only to supply our customers with good quality and innovative products but also to champion the industry as a whole in Spain.

“It is not simply about wanting Acres Europe to be a success for ourselves but also for our supply chain. I feel very grateful for this opportunity and the faith that Luke and the management team have shown in me. We cannot wait to get started.”
