PE-backed coffee brand to open sixth outlet

BEAR is coming to Ashbourne

Private equity-backed coffee house, kitchen and bar brand BEAR has unveiled plans to open its sixth site.

The fast-growing firm will open its latest outlet in the historic former Bennetts department store in Ashbourne, Derbyshire in Spring 2023.

BEAR recently received backing from Poole-based Clark Group – a story which has been one of our most popular of the year to date. At the time, BEAR co-founder Craig Bunting described the brand’s identity as being akin to “taking Shoreditch, giving it a pair of walking boots, and taking it for a trek in the Peak District.”

The company operates five other sites including two in Derby, and one each in Stone, Uttoxeter and Northwich.

Bunting said: “BEAR was born on the Staffordshire / Derbyshire border, so investing in such an iconic location in Ashbourne feels like a great way to pay homage to the space and our history across the two counties. We’re super proud of our Midlands heritage; BEAR combines our countryside roots with all of the best bits of our collective inner-city influences.”

BEAR will be bringing a newly-launched evening concept, Later at BEAR, to its new outlet on St. John Street. On Fridays and Saturdays from 4pm, customers will be able to enjoy “smash burgers, taco trays, loaded fries and twisted cocktail classics.”
