Stricken food firm on the verge of calling in administrators

Loscoe Chilled Foods, the company at the centre of a meat fraud investigation, is teetering on the edge of going under after it posted a second notice of intention (NOI) to appoint administrators in less than four days.

The company, which last week reportedly laid of 120 people, can only post two NOIs before calling in administrators or continuing to trade.

Three people were arrested at Loscoe Chilled Foods last week after police and Trading Standards officials turned up at the firm, which is being investigated over allegedly supplying meat from South America and Europe that had been labelled as British.

It is alleged that supermarket chain Booths could have been supplied with some of the meat in question.

Loscoe Chilled Foods is based on the border of Heanor and Loscoe.
