Plans submitted for scheme in area ‘overwhelmed’ by student accommodation

Outline drawings show the plans

A former Nottingham City Council building could be turned into a student accommodation scheme, according to documents seen by TheBusinessDesk.com.

Private developers want to turn Ortzen Court on Ortzen Street, in Radford just outside Nottingham city centre, into a four-storey scheme that would house 48 students.

The plans have been drawn up by JLK Architectural Design of London.

The city council made the decision to sell Ortzen Court in early 2022, declaring the two buildings on the site surplus to requirements. This was despite concerns raised at the time from ward councillors about an “overwhelming” amount of purpose-built student accommodation in the area. They said they would be “very reluctant” to see similar development on the land.

The councillors added: “It would be good to see more family dwelling being built in order to rebuild a more sustainable and economic community.”

Nottingham City Council’s planning bosses will decide whether the scheme should go ahead in the coming weeks.
