England’s former deputy chief medical officer Sir Jonathan Van-Tam has taken a job advising vaccine manufacturer Moderna.

Sir Jonathan was a prominent member of the Vaccine Taskforce, becoming a household name, alongside Sir Chris Whitty, through the televised briefings on the Covid pandemic.

He left the Department of Health and Social Care in April 2022 and spent a year as pro vice-chancellor at the University of Nottingham, where he had been professor of health protection since 2007.

He continues to be a strategic adviser to the university’s school of medicine.

Sir Jonathan received a knighthood in last year’s New Year Honours list for services to public health.

His appointment with Moderna, which began in May, was first revealed by the Financial Times, although the position is on Sir Jonathan’s LinkedIn page.
