Redundancies on hold at Wilko, claims union
Any potential redundancies at Nottinghamshire-headquartered retailer Wilko have been suspended, according to the GMB union.
The union says that job cuts will be halted while administrators from PwC consider further bids.
The GMB says it met with administrators on Tuesday morning (August 29) to discuss “multiple bids” which have been made for the discount retailer.
Andy Prendergast, GMB national secretary said: “All redundancies at Wilko have been suspended while the administrator considers further bids.
“Whilst this is a positive development, Wilko is not out of the woods by any means and this is a time of incredible stress and worry for the 12,500 workers who face losing their jobs.”
Earlier on Tuesday morning, we reported that the GMB was pushing for talks with Business Secretary Kemi Badenoch after it claimed potential buyers for the stricken retailer were experiencing “difficulties” in speaking to administrators.
