Flooding set to cause misery for commuters

Commuters are being warned to either cancel or add more time to their journeys to work this morning after heavy rain caused widespread flooding across the East Midlands on Tuesday afternoon.

At around 9.15pm last night, Nottinghamshire Police closed the A52 due to flooding. National Highways recourses have been working in the area through the night to clear the floodwater. There is currently no estimated time for the carriageway to reopen.

A diversion route is in place:

– From the A52 Saxondale Island, take the exit onto the A46.
– At the next roundabout, take the first exit onto the A6097 and continue until the village of Lowdham.
– At the roundabout with the A612 turn left, and follow the road toward Nottingham for 11.5km, then take the first exit at the A612/A6011 roundabout onto the A6011.
– After 250m, turn left onto Lady Bay Bridge and continue to re-join the westbound A52 at Gamston Island.

Meanwhile, the A1 in Lincolnshire is closed northbound between the A52 (Grantham) and the B6326 (near Newark) due to flooding.

Lincolnshire Police are on scene and are being be assisted by National Highways contractors who will be attending to clear the flood water.

A statement from National Highways said: “Traffic is being diverted via local routes. Please allow extra time for your journey as there is likely to be other localised flooding in the area.”
