Bidding opens for £1.4bn Midlands rail hub partnership
Network Rail has started the tendering process for its newest alliance contract, aimed at enhancing various rail lines and stations in and around Birmingham and neighbouring urban areas.
The search is underway for partners to execute the £1.4bn Midlands Rail Hub initiative, including infrastructure projects spanning the West, Central, and East Midlands regions.
Aiming to establish an alliance that will operate for eight years, the project focuses initially on enhancements around Birmingham Moor Street.
Network Rail, acting as the client, is soliciting main alliance partners to oversee £1bn in non-signalling works and £350m in signalling upgrades.
The project comprises eight interventions across the region, including works at Snow Hill, King’s Norton to Barnt Green, and Birmingham Bordesley to Moor Street.
Work includes constructing new platforms and sidings, introducing new railway connections, widening viaducts, upgrading power supplies, implementing freight loops, enhancing overhead line equipment, and various signalling improvements.
Additional interventions are planned for Worcester to Hereford, Stoke Works Junction, Water Orton, and Nuneaton to Wigston, contingent upon funding decisions and design development.
Interested firms have until April 24 to submit their applications, with tender invitations set to be issued to successful applicants by the end of June.
