Sports Direct gives Nottingham street major boost with relocation plans

How the new store will look

Nottingham’s run down Lister Gate is set to receive a much-needed boost after it was revealed that Sports Direct is set to take a major unit on the street.

The sportswear retail giant will move into the former H&M store on the street, which was once a thriving high street, but is now largely derelict due to the stalled redevelopment of the Broad Marsh area.

H&M moved out of the unit and into a 23,000 sq ft space in the city’s Victoria Shopping Centre earlier this month.

Sports Direct already has a Nottingham store on Clumber Street; from the application form submitted to Nottingham City Council it appears that this will be a relocation rather than a second store.

Flannels, Sports Direct’s high-end sister brand opened on Lister ate last year and will be its new neighbour.
