Expansion plans approved at Lincolnshire hotel

The White Hart Hotel

Lincoln Council’s planning committee has approved multiple expansion plans for the White Hart Hotel, paving the way for new rooms, a swimming pool complex, and additional café, restaurant and retail spaces.

During the planning committee meeting on Wednesday, July 10, discussions centred around not only the existing hotel but also the planned expansions at 2 Bailgate, Castle Hill and the Judges Lodgings.

The plans follow the hotel’s acquisition by businessman Andrew Long, who also purchased the nearby Judges Lodgings from Lincolnshire County Council.

The initial focus was on the Judges Lodgings and 2 Bailgate. Plans include converting these locations into additional hotel rooms, including spaces above the existing visitor information centre at Castle Hill and creating a retail arcade on the ground floor.

Judges Lodgings will also feature a café and restaurant with kitchen and toilet facilities, alongside a new building offering retail or commercial spaces and more parking.

The 1950s extension at the rear of the Judges Lodgings will be demolished to make way for a new extension, while the undercroft at 2 Bailgate will be replaced with a Georgian arcade-style shopfront.

Plans were unanimously approved, allowing the council to proceed to the next item on the agenda—the swimming pool and spa complex within the existing hotel structure.

An application submitted in February outlines the construction of a swimming pool, spa and gym at the rear of the hotel on Eastgate, exclusively for hotel guests.

It also received unanimous approval from the councillors, along with the necessary listed building consent. It was the third and final item to gain the planning committee’s support.
