East Midlands gears up for stage four of Men’s Tour of Britain

Residents of Derby, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire are set to cheer on some of the world’s top cyclists as stage four of the Men’s Tour of Britain kicks off this week.

For the first time in the race’s history, Derby will host the start line on Friday (September 6).

From there, riders will pass through iconic landmarks across Derbyshire and Nottingham, with the stage wrapping up in Newark-on-Trent after a three-hour ride.

The event features athletes, including Team GB’s Olympic gold medallist Tom Pidcock and Belgium’s double gold winner Remco Evenepoel.

Claire Ward, Mayor of the East Midlands, said: “The excitement has been building for weeks and I can’t wait to welcome the Tour to the East Midlands region and I’m looking forward to setting off the race in Derby. I’ll be cheering on the cyclists at the start and congratulating them at the end of the race in Newark.

“The Tour of Britain coming here is a superb opportunity for all of us to show what a great region we live in. Nearly 75 million visitors came to the region over the last year, supporting over 50,000 jobs worth £5bn – the Tour is a great opportunity to showcase our cities, towns and villages. One of my key priorities is to launch Visit East Midlands and bringing the Tour of Britain to Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire signals my ambition to shine the spotlight on our wonderful region.”

The Tour, which started in the Scottish Borders in Kelso on Tuesday, will pass through Derby, Alvaston, Boulton, Elvaston, Risley, West Hallam, Smalley, Heanor, Langley Mill and Eastwood.

It will then pass through Brinsley, Underwood, Moorgreen, Greasley, Hucknall, Papplewick, Ravenshead, Blidworth, Farnsfield, Edingly, Halam, Southwell, Caunton, Tuxford, Collingham, Coddington and Newark.
