New board hopes to strengthen business ties with Combined Authority

Mayor Claire Ward

A new Business Advisory Board is being formed to strengthen collaboration between businesses and the East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA).

Companies of all sizes from across the region are invited to express their interest in joining the board, with applications open until Friday, 11 October.

The board will play a role in advising the main EMCCA Board, its committees and Mayor Claire Ward.

It aims to ensure that the insights and expertise of regional businesses are considered in shaping decisions on areas like the economy, skills, transport, housing and the transition to net zero.

Chaired by David Williams, chairman of Geldards law firm, the board will meet quarterly.

Mayor Claire Ward will also sit on the board to directly hear from business representatives.

The EMCCA, which covers Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, has gained new powers and funding from Westminster, allowing it to focus on regional priorities and promote economic growth.

The Business Advisory Board will consist of 16 members, including representatives from both the public and private sectors, as well as the East Midlands Chamber of Commerce.

The private sector participants will include business leaders from large companies, SMEs and sectors likely to attract investment.
