On the move: the latest East Midlands hires
Midlands-based accounting and advisory firm PKF Smith Cooper has welcomed Rachel Wales as its new audit manager.
Wales began her career at a ‘top six’ accounting firm where she gained eight years of experience and worked her way up from a trainee accountant to audit manager.
She also experienced working on audits abroad during a short-term secondment in Perth, Australia in 2022.
Wales has completed audits in a large range of different sectors, including manufacturing, professional services, food and drink and retail. Joining the high-performing team at PKF Smith Cooper’s Nottingham office, Rachel will support client needs and ensure the audit process is completed as smoothly and efficiently as possible.
She said: “I am excited to be joining PKF Smith Cooper as an audit manager in the Nottingham office. Everyone has been very welcoming so far, and I am looking forward to embedding myself into the audit team. I’m delighted to have the opportunity of working alongside a talented team, to deliver high-quality audits to our clients.”

Mackworth Vehicle Conversion Specialists, a provider of tailored vehicle solutions, has announced one new hire and a promotion as part of its growth strategy.
Phil Taylor has joined the company as its new quality and compliance inspector. With over five years of experience in quality assurance from his tenure at Toyota, Taylor brings extensive expertise in upholding high standards within the automotive sector.
At Toyota, he was responsible for conducting rigorous quality checks, managing up to 300 inspections within a five-minute timeframe, and overseeing the inspection of approximately 280 vehicles each day.
In his role at Mackworth, he will be instrumental in ensuring that all vehicle conversions and modifications meet both customer specifications and industry standards.
He will conduct final quality assessments on completed builds, ensuring that every vehicle adheres to Mackworth’s strict quality assurance protocols.
In addition to welcoming Phil, Mackworth is also celebrating the promotion of Emma Ockhuis to customer sales administrator.
Ockhuis has been a part of the Mackworth team for just over a year and has demonstrated outstanding dedication, attention to detail and a strong commitment to customer service.
