Developer submits repurposed plans at assisted living site

A developer has submitted plans to repurpose an assisted living complex currently under construction in Edwalton into affordable apartments for older people.

Charterpoint and housing provider Anchor initially secured approval in November 2023 from Rushcliffe Borough Council for a 77-unit, three-storey assisted living facility at the junction of Melton Road and Rose Way.

Construction has now paused while updated proposals are considered.

The revised plans seek to convert the building into apartments for residents aged 55 and over, no longer operating as a supported living facility.

Planning documents reveal the change follows discussions with Nottinghamshire County Council, which indicated that demand, support and funding for extra care at the site may fall short of expectations.

Anchor also proposes increasing the number of apartments from 77 to 80 by reducing communal space, alongside an increase in car parking from 46 to 48 spaces.

The updated design includes 31 one-bedroom flats and 49 two-bedroom flats, all committed to being affordable housing, with a communal lounge remaining part of the development.

Access to the site is already established via Rose Way and a new roundabout on Melton Road.
