African concept restaurant to launch Nottingham venue

A new African restaurant concept is set to open in Nottingham as part of a nationwide expansion that will see it launch 11 venues this year.

Afrikana Kitchen will open at the former Rosa’s Thai site on King Street in the city, according to hospitality trade title Propel.

It will be run by Umar Chohan, the former Domino’s and Pizza Hut franchisee.

Omair Ali, managing director of Afrikana’s parent company City Restaurant Group, said: ““I am proud to announce that Afrikana Kitchen is expanding, and we will soon be serving our delicious food in Nottingham.

“Franchise partner Umer Chohan and team come with vast experience within the hospitality sector, so we’re super excited to kick start our journey together in Nottingham with a new look Afrikana Kitchen. 2025 has a lot on its radar and Nottingham will kick us off for a very busy year.”

Afrikana has 16 venues, including one in Leicester, after opening five in 2024.
