Nottinghamshire solar farm takes next step after public consultation

The Elements Green team

Plans for the Great North Road Solar and Biodiversity Park in Nottinghamshire have moved forward following the completion of a six-week public consultation.

From January 9 to February 20, developer Elements Green collected over 300 pieces of feedback and engaged with more than 500 residents across nine events, concluding the second phase of consultations.

The proposed solar farm, located northwest of Newark-on-Trent, aims to generate up to 800 MW of electricity—enough to power around 400,000 homes and businesses.

It also includes battery storage and environmental initiatives such as planting 50,000 trees, creating 800 acres of wildlife areas and adding 46 km of hedgerows.

The project also includes 19 new routes to connect existing public footpaths and a £40m community fund to support local initiatives.

Mark Noone, UK project director at Elements Green said: “It has been so valuable for our team to spend the last six weeks speaking with local people across the project area and receiving feedback on our proposals. It brings Great North Road Solar and Biodiversity Park to life and is already helping us to further refine our plans.

The design has come on significantly since our first phase of consultation last year. It was great to share our latest proposals and hear people’s feedback on the changes we’ve made so far and the substantial level of detail that we have now shared.

We’ve had some very constructive conversations and received useful feedback to help us understand where there is support for our proposals and where further changes or details are being asked for. Our team is considering every comment to inform further improvements as we now prepare for our planning submission.”

The project has already secured partnerships with environmental groups, including the RSPB and Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust and a deal with Pro Renewables to use British steel.

The next step is submitting a development consent order application, which will undergo a formal examination process, allowing further public input.
