Nottinghamshire care home changes hands in homegrown deal

A Nottinghamshire-based dementia and nursing care home has been snapped up by a provider in the county.

Wren Hall Nursing Home in Selston has been acquired by Church Farm Care, which runs four care homes in Nottinghamshire.

The deal, which includes the nursery and preschool on-site, was supported by law firm Shakespeare Martineau.

The home was founded in 1989 by Dr and Mrs Kesari and has been run for over 30 years by their daughter Anita Astle MBE.

It holds an ‘Outstanding’ rating from the CQC and has been crowned “Care Home of the Year” three times.

Its on-site Little Wrens Nursery and Preschool, which forms part of its unique intergenerational care model, is also part of the sale.

Anita Astle MBE will stay on as registered manager during the transition.

She said: “Wren Hall began as a dream in my parents’ back garden, and over the past 35 years, it has grown into a vibrant, loving community rooted in dignity, independence and inclusion. Every award and achievement has only ever been possible because of the extraordinary dedication of team Wren Hall and the families who placed their trust in us.

“Handing over the reins has been one of the hardest decisions of my life. But it’s the right one. Wren Hall needs reinvestment and fresh energy to carry on delivering exceptional care for future generations. I’m absolutely confident that Patrick and Lucy Atkinson of Church Farm Care share our values and vision. They understand what makes Wren Hall special and I know they will nurture its legacy while taking it to the next level.

“Throughout this process, I have been incredibly grateful for the expertise and support of Roger Harcourt and his team at Shakespeare Martineau. They not only guided us with professionalism and care but truly understood the emotional weight of this transition. Their support has made all the difference.”

The deal was handled by Shakespeare Martineau’s corporate team, led by Roger Harcourt, with support from Emma Ali and Renee Freeman.

Freeman said: “Wren Hall is an extraordinary care home, not just in terms of outcomes and reputation, but in its deep-rooted culture of love, purpose and innovation. Anita has done an amazing job in creating an outstanding home. Supporting her and her family through this emotional and momentous transition has been an honour. We are confident Church Farm Care will build on this remarkable legacy and ensure Wren Hall continues to lead the way in nursing and dementia care.”
