Fresh consultation launched after Government shelves A38 scheme to fund defence spending

A fresh public consultation will be held on the long-running A38 Derby junctions scheme after the Government announced plans to shelve the project as part of a wider drive to increase defence spending.

The A38 scheme, along with the proposed A46 Newark bypass, has been identified as a potential casualty of plans to divert around £700m of roads funding towards a £15bn uplift in defence investment announced by Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer this week.
