Leicester software firm wins £162,000 Innovate UK backing for cyber security project
A Leicester software developer has secured £162,000 from Innovate UK to develop a new approach to cyber security testing for web and mobile applications.
Swipe & Tap will use the funding to create a continuous, automated security testing platform designed to identify vulnerabilities throughout the software development process rather than relying on traditional testing methods carried out at specific stages.
The project will be delivered through a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) with De Montfort University, bringing together expertise from the university’s Faculty of Technology, Arts and Culture and the company’s software development team.
As part of the initiative, a postgraduate associate specialising in application security will be recruited through De Montfort University to work within the business and help embed the new capability.
Aaron Wardle, managing director and founder of Swipe & Tap, said: “We’re delighted to secure the funding for this innovative project with De Montfort University.
“With support from Innovate UK, we will embed testing directly into the development cycle, to give businesses a more flexible and practical way to manage cyber risks as their products grow and change.
“Working with De Montfort University is a great opportunity to bring in specialist expertise, fill key skill gaps within the business and develop solutions that will support our growth over the coming years and help us develop a secure product.”
The company said the project represents a move away from conventional security testing by integrating automated checks throughout the lifecycle of an application, enabling risks to be identified and addressed as products evolve.
Knowledge Transfer Partnerships are part-funded by Innovate UK and are designed to help businesses access academic expertise to accelerate innovation and growth.
