Derby Assembly Rooms demolition finally gets green light

Derby’s former Assembly Rooms can finally be demolished after councillors cleared the last planning hurdle preventing work from starting.

Derby City Council’s planning control committee agreed on Thursday (September 3) that conditions requiring firm redevelopment proposals to be in place before demolition could begin had now been satisfied.

The decision clears the way for work on the Market Place site to start in early 2027.
