East Mids universities turn to re-form to transform landscape

re-form's proposed designs for the of University of Lincoln.

Public realm specialist, re-form Landscape Architecture, has been appointed to deliver the next phase of major masterplans at two East Midlands universities.

Re-form, which has studios in Leeds and Manchester, designed a landscape masterplan for Nottingham Trent University in 2011 which included designs for a multimillion pound ‘heart of the campus’ development which opened in September 2015.

Re-form has now been appointed to the next phase of the masterplan, which includes the public spaces around a new piazza, proposed student park and routes linking it through to the ‘heart of the campus’ development. Work is expected to begin on site later this year.

Richard Clayton, principal cost manager for estates at Nottingham Trent University, said: “Re-form demonstrated an excellent understanding and interpretation of our brief, conceiving a clear and simple design.

“The team have already successfully delivered an exceptional landscape scheme for our ‘Heart of the Campus’ development, and we look forward to working with them on the next phase of our ambitious masterplan.”

The company has also been appointed to deliver the next phase of its landscape masterplan for the University of Lincoln.

The University has spent around £200m on its Brayford Pool campus – which featured landscape designs by re-form – with a further £130m earmarked to improve the student experience further over the next few years.

Re-form will now refurbish a major public square, as well as public realm improvements and linkage routes between the new Lincoln Science and Innovation Park (LSIP) – a 12.6 hectare scheme which is being developed in stages over the next decade to offer world class laboratories and research facilities – and the Brayford Pool campus.

Guy Denton, director at re-form Landscape Architecture, said: “Having worked with both universities for several years now on public realm and campus masterplans, it’s fantastic to continue our involvement and to see our concepts brought to life.”
