Sports Direct reveals date of working practices report

Sports Direct has named the date on which the report into working practices at its Shirebrook warehouse will be published.

The independent report currently being undertaken by law firm RPC will review and report on the internal investigation announced in December of last year, and will be published on 5 September – just two days ahead of Sports Direct’s AGM.

A statement from Sports Direct said that an external evaulation of the board is planned for later this financial year.

The news comes in the same week that Sports Direct agreed to pay £1m to workers in backpay for time they were not previously paid for.

The retailer has been under pressure following a furore about working practices at its Shirebrook warehouse in Derbyshire.

The company was alleged to have not paid its workers the minimum wage because searches at the end of shifts extended the working days but workers were unpaid for that period.

Trade union Unite has said it has secured the £1m payout for employees and agency workers. It is backdated to May 2012 with some individuals in line to receive up to £1,000.
